Second Edition 2017
The second edition of the Biologically Active Compounds in Food (BACIF) Conference was held on 9–10 November 2017 in Łódź, Poland. The event was organized by the Faculty of Biotechnology and Food Sciences of Lodz University of Technology together with the Łódź Branch of the Polish Society of Food Technologists. The conference brought together scientists, researchers and industry representatives from numerous European countries, including Poland, France, Norway, Cyprus, Greece, Croatia and Serbia.
The scientific programme featured plenary lectures, oral presentations and poster sessions devoted to the occurrence, analysis and biological activity of food constituents important for human health. Participants discussed topics related to polyphenols, carotenoids, vitamins, bioactive peptides, glucosinolates, food allergens, mycotoxins, antioxidant activity, functional foods and innovative food products. Particular attention was paid to modern analytical techniques, including HPLC, LC-MS/MS, FTIR and advanced extraction methods used in food research.
Invited lectures were delivered by internationally recognized experts from leading research institutions, covering subjects such as food processing effects on polyphenols, mycotoxin risk assessment, bioactive compounds in fruits, allergen analysis by LC-MS/MS and vitamin stability during food processing. The conference provided an excellent opportunity for scientific discussion, networking and the establishment of new international collaborations.
BACIF 2017 confirmed the growing importance of interdisciplinary research on biologically active compounds in food and created a valuable forum for the exchange of knowledge between scientists working in food science, nutrition, biotechnology and analytical chemistry.
